BITCOIN PIZZA!
Azimuth launches “BITCOIN PIZZA!”, a special Garfield watch to commemorate Bitcoin Pizza Day on 22nd May Laszlo Hanyecz is the man widely believed to be the first ever person to conduct a commercial transaction using Bitcoin in 2010.
Largely an experiment to see what value, if any, bitcoin had, Hanyecz, a programmer by training, offered 10,000 bitcoins via an online forum to anyone who could bring him two Papa John’s pizzas.
When Bitcoin was first mined in 2009, it was basically worthless, or at best a fraction of a penny. No one had ever actually spent a bitcoin before, so the prices were largely based on theoretical value. Fast forward to 2022; at the point of this press release these 2 pizzas would have been valued at approximately US$400,000,000.
